Rocco represents the one who sees in society a danger … the new life offers too many temptations and he proclaims himself as protector of others, members of his family, members of his community … Rocco is willing to sacrifice his whole life for them, just to protect them from the dangers of society
I MISS MY VILLAGE
Rocco does not give up and will never give up the fact of having left his village … he lives the new life only as a momentary phase … he thinks it is unfair that the people of the South are forced to leave their houses and their villages in order to find work in the north … and through Rocco Visconti transmits his Marxist message in favor of the South and as a criticism of the fact that the north left the south without resources
SACRIFICE FOR LOVE
The sense of self-sacrifice for his family is so high that Rocco prefers to renounce the woman he loves for his brother’s sake … Rocco thinks his brother’s personal decline is partly due to the new life in the city but is mainly due to the fact not to have the love of Nadia … and then he has no scruples to leave her … Even if she protests saying that he is also sacrificing her life …. But Rocco does not care … the only thing that interests him is to save Simone
When he realizes that he will never return to the village Rocco can not do anything else to focus his efforts on his younger brother, Luca, and hope that at least he will one day return to their homeland ….
I FORGIVE YOU
But his obsession will make him blind even in the face of the worst of the acts that Simon can do …. the murder of his beloved Nadia. Rocco suffers from Nadia’s death, but his sense of brotherhood is stronger than his pain, so he forgives Simone. Rocco is ready to hide him, to protect him, to return him to their community, but if this does not happen it is the fault (or merit) of Cyrus, the only one who is totally detached from the community bonds and who still has the ability to see evil, the ruin and destruction that Simone is bringing to his family.
