MARCELLO REFUSES HIS DESTINY AND HIS REAL IDENTITY AND LIVES IN AN IMAGINARY WORLD SEARCHING FOR A LIFESTYLE THAT HE CAN NOT GET
Marcello wears various masks depending on the situation in which he finds himself. He is torn between the normalcy of life offered by Emma, his girlfriend, and the world he dreams of, full of celebrities and actresses. The world of sweet life.
A world that he lives marginally, as a narrator, but who would like to live as a protagonist.
To do this he thinks that one of the possibilities could be to stop being a gossip journalist and raise his social position by becoming a successful writer, but even this is just an illusion. A self-deception.
The sunglasses he wears represent the masks he wears … they serve to conceal his eyes, the mirror of his soul, his true self … something that he tries to hide from himself and others.
In his Roman journey, there are 4 women … each represents an opportunity, a choice, that he does not know or does not want to grasp.
He will continue until the end to pretend to be something other than himself and to attend the world he dreams of but from which he can never be accepted.
He lives dreaming of La Dolce Vita without ever understanding that life is not real.
